Expert Care for Complex Neurovascular Disorders
Living with a neurovascular disorder can be challenging. Our USC Neuro Revascularization Center team specializes in the management of complex neurovascular diseases and delivers care tailored to your needs.
We focus our treatment strategies to help preserve your functionality, prevent disability and improve your quality of life. We also offer care if you’re experiencing symptoms due to a previous stroke.
Our highly experienced surgeons and clinicians work in close collaboration to treat neurovascular disorders, including:
- Chronic ischemic disease
- Complex cerebral aneurysms (also known as brain aneurysms)
- High-risk thoracoabdominal aneurysms
- Moyamoya disease
- Vascular malformations
Founded by expert microvascular surgeons from neurosurgery, plastic surgery and vascular surgery, our team uses innovative surgical techniques and the latest research to manage your care.
Our mission is to provide personalized surgical care that offers better outcomes, faster recovery times and improves your quality of life.
Conditions We Treat
- Blister aneurysms
- Carotid occlusion resistant to medical therapy
- Chronic cerebral ischemic disease
- Complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms requiring endovascular repair
- Giant/complex cerebral aneurysms (also known as brain aneurysms)
- Moyamoya disease/syndrome
- Neurovascular issues resulting from radiation, trauma or cancer treatment
- Vascular malformations, including arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and cavernous malformations
Treatments We Offer
- EDAS (Encephaloduroarteriosynangiosis)
- Extra-anatomic bypass to radicular branches prior to endovascular treatment of high-risk thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm
- Extracranial to intracranial bypass
- Flow-through free flap combined revascularization
- Flow-through pedicle flap combined revascularization
- Intracranial to intracranial bypass
- Local and Free flap transfers for indirect revascularization
- Management of complications of disease treated at outside facilities, including soft tissue management and failed treatments
- Innovative bypass surgical procedure, prior to endovascular aortic repair, designed to help prevent spinal cord stroke and injury
- Superficial temporal artery (STA) to middle cerebral artery (MCA) bypass
- Three-vessel bypass technique for bihemispheric and entire middle cerebral artery revascularization

Leaders in Surgical Innovation
Our team has pioneered the use of bypass surgery to prevent spinal cord ischemia when treating complex abdominal aortic aneurysms, invented flow-through flaps in the treatment of complex intracranial disease, described multivessel bypass techniques and reported novel bypass graft options. Our surgical bypass procedure for high-risk thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAA) patients is designed to help reduce the risk of spinal cord stroke, paralysis and other debilitating symptoms.
Our contributions have been recognized with well over 100 peer-reviewed publications, “Best Case Selection” at the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
