Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement

Reverse total shoulder replacement surgery is performed when the rotator cuff is torn or the patient has had a failed shoulder replacement.

In this procedure, the doctor attaches a metal ball to the shoulder bone and a plastic socket to the arm, in effect switching their natural placement. This allows the patient to use the deltoid muscle to lift the arm instead of the torn rotator cuff.
