Clearing Your Cloudy Vision
Surgery is the only way to treat vision loss from a cataract. Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful eye procedures performed.
Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed or you’ve been struggling with cataracts for years, you can trust our expert team at USC Roski Eye Institute to help you see clearly again.
Types of Cataract Surgery We Offer
We offer conventional and femtosecond laser cataract surgery.
Conventional cataract: During traditional cataract surgery, eye doctors (ophthalmologists) make a small incision in the eye and remove the cloudy lens (cataract). The cataract is then replaced with an implant called an intraocular lens (IOL).
Cataract surgery patients can choose between various lens implant options, including IOLs that correct for distance or reading vision. Advanced technology IOLs can correct astigmatism and/or provide distance and reading vision that lets patients be free of glasses in many instances. Our surgeons use the most advanced technology available to precisely measure the dimensions of the eye to accurately calculate the power of the lens implant.
Femtosecond laser cataract surgery: In femtosecond laser cataract surgery, the laser makes incisions that are more precise compared to manual incisions. It also breaks up the cataract to make removal safer compared to conventional cataract surgery, especially in patients with certain corneal diseases.
Femtosecond laser cataract surgery, when used in addition to advanced technology IOLs, can correct astigmatism (an incorrect curvature of the eye) and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness).
